• Embroidery scissors with fine, sharp points

• Dressmaking scissors for cutting out fabric

• Damp face cloth for wiping hands

• Black felt-tip pen with a fine point

• Note paper and pen

In this 1-day workshop you will learn how to create a life-like rose and stem, how to make beautiful leaves and sepals and a host of other tips and tricks — an ideal workshop for all those rose-lovers out there! 

After learning how to make the first rose, its stem, sepals and leaves in the workshop and you will be able to make the other rose in this sampler at home as I have written the lesson step-by step with clear and detailed photographs to guide you all along the way. The lesson is supplied on a CD for you to have printed in full colour or to read on your hussif or handy-hold-all, ribbon embroidery, Di van Niekerk, embroidery show, craft exhibition, Kiev, Ukraine, Masters` Golden Hands craft show, Fashion Doll Salonlaptop or computer.

 

 

After you have learned the Rose sampler above, you are welcome to purchase the kit for the blue Hussif or handy-hold-all. I turned my Hussif into a holder for my ribbons but you are welcome to add pockets or zips for scissors, threads and needles, turn it into a jewellery case or any holder you like. This beautiful Hussif is made using similar methods and Di will bring Hussif kits for you purchase in the workshop. These kits are a limited edition for the show and to avoid disappointment, please try to order the kit in advance.

Size of the completed Hussif: approximately 51 x 27 cm (20 x 10.6 inches) open and 17 x 25 cm (6.7 x 10 inches) when closed.

A group of 15 persons.

A miniature of the design featured on the cover of Hazel`s book "Crewel Twists", this design is intended to teach paritcipants the joy of using beads in crewel embroidery. Measuring 65 x 75 mm, it is worked on black dupion silk with DMC stranded cotton, Madeira metallic thread and Miyuki beads. Along with a variety of crewel stitches the workshop will cover bead embroidery stitches and the use of metallic thread.

Participants will be instructed on a separate sampler and tuition will cover all the techniques that they will need to complete the design once they leave.

The kit contains everything that the participants will need to complete the project, as well as a hand-made greetings card in which to mount the finished article, if they so wish.

Student requirements:
- 6" (15cm) hoop,
- sharp scissors,
- additional lighting (if required),
- good spectacles or additional magnification (it is very fine work).

2) "Crewel travel", 95 х 45mm

Workshop cost: $55

A kit for the workshop: R245 = $31
A group of 15 persons.
Done with a combination of DMC tatting threads, DMC stranded cottons and Madeira Metallic threads, this design covers a number of crewel stitches and techniques along with some interesting weaving ideas. Worked on taffeta, it measures 95 x 45mm and it is ideal for all embroiderers who would like to either learn Jacobean embroidery or try some techniques to give their embroidery a new twist.
 
Participants will be instructed on a separate sampler and tuition will cover all the techniques that they will need to complete the design once they leave.
 
The kit contains everything that the participants will need to complete the project, as well as a hand-made greetings card in which to mount the finished article, if they so wish.

 

Student requirements:

- 6" (15cm) hoop,
- sharp scissors,
- good spectacles or additional magnification (it is very fine work).
